Abstract
1,171,894. Optical distance measurement. IMPULSPHYSIK G.m.b.H. 31 July, 1968 [12 Sept., 1967], No. 36526/68. Heading H4D. The Specification relates to the use in a cloud altimeter (of the type wherein a pulse of light is transmitted thereto and the time of return of the echo thereof determined) of a spark-gap light pulse producer including a discharge capacitor and a discharge circuit including inductive resistance such that the rise time of the produced light pulse is in the range 0À5 Ás to 1À5 Ás. Such a rise time (pulse b) is stated to be longer than is encountered in prior art pulses (pulse a), whereby less strain is put on the transmitting equipment, the lifetime of the spark-gap lamp is extended and the echo pulse has approximately the same shape as the transmitted pulse.
