Abstract

1,196,266. Vehicle rear view mirrors. DESMO Ltd. 6 Dec., 1967 [14 Dec., 1966; 17 Feb., 1967], Nos. 55984/66 and 7669/67. Heading B7J. A polypropylene mirror head 11, containing dished ball seating washers 21, 22, Fig. 1, is mounted on an arm 10 provided at its other end with a separate or integral bearer part 26 which by means of domes 30, Fig. 3, may engage with hollows (45), Fig. 4 (not shown) in a base part 43 screwed to a vehicle panel 66, and having a hole 46 therein chamfered on both sides. In order to assemble the arm 10 and base 43 together the retainer 32 and spring retainer 38 are fastened together on the bearer 26 by a screw, the elements and retainer having square openings in their bottom portions which locate over a boss 29. The bearer 26 is then offered up to the base so that the retainer 32 first contacts and is compressed by the chamfered edges 47 of the hole 46 and then as it is pushed further the curved portions 37 of the elements 38 spring outwards into engagement with the chamfered edges 48 to hold the arm in place. The arm 10 when assembled to the base 43 as shown in Fig. 2 may releasably disengage therefrom by the release or breaking of the retainer 32 when the head 11 receives an impact force. Other forms of retainer as in Figs. 5-7 (not shown) may be used.
