Abstract
1,196,190. Apparatus for auto-radiography. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY (Euratom). 13 Aug., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 38619/68. Heading H5R. An apparatus for auto-radiography comprises a support member 1 having at least one perforation 2 through it, one end of the perforation being open and providing a socket into which the sample to be examined is placed, the other end being closed by a closure member 4 which is opaque to α-radiation and transparent to beta and gamma radiation, means being provided e.g. pressure plate 10 to support a film 13 to receive and record radiation passing through member 4 from the sample in perforations 2, a glove or sleeve 8 (Fig. 4) being sealed around access opening 17 in the glove box 16 in which the samples to be studied are contained, the support member being attached to the glove so that it may be positioned in the box or cell with the open end of perforations 2 on the side of the glove open to the box or chamber, the film support being accessible within the glove from the outside of the chamber. Preferably the glove 8 has an aperture of dimensions such that its edges may be clamped between frame 7 and body 1, the joint being rendered leak free by sealing means 9. The film pressure plate 10 may be clamped against member 4 by pivoting about axis 11 and locking screw 14 into the socket 15 provided. The joint between closure member 4 and support unit 1 is rendered leak proof by seal 5 cooperating with plate 6. Preferably the support member 1 is provided with legs 3 on that side on which the film is disposed. As a further safety precaution the glove 8 may be fitted with an internal glove 18 also attached via frame 7 to the block 1, but not having a corresponding aperture, but being instead perforated to fit closely around the perforations 2. The member 4 may be a sheet of polyester aluminized on both faces. The apparatus may have a number of holes 2 when the film is a single sheet. Alternatively there may be a single hole 2, the film being a roll film which is unwound between two rollers positioned on either side of the plate 10.
