Abstract

1,196,097. Moulding cladding sheets. H. J. WIEMERS. 14 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 28488/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] Plastics cladding sheets for walls, floors and facades, and with mineral grains projecting from one surface thereof, are moulded by applying a layer of mineral grains, e.g. quartz, gravel, basalt, or marble chippings, within a mould to a horizontal layer of a silicate based slurry which is water soluble when set, the thickness of the slurry corresponding to half the smallest grain size of the mineral whereby, after setting the slurry, e.g. by heating the mould, and removing unembedded mineral grains by bringing the mould to a vertical position, a layer of plastics, preferably thermoplastics, is applied in a horizontal position of the mould to embed therein the mineral grains projecting from the slurry and, after the plastics has set, the composite assembly is taken out of the mould and the set slurry removed therefrom with water. The plastics layer may incorporate chicken wire embedded in sprayed plaster, or elements of concrete, expanded concrete, wood or metal. The sheets may be directly applied as cladding to mortar beds, or an adhesive may be employed, and one particularly suitable for cladding expanded concrete, expanded clay concrete, woodfibre concrete, pumice concrete, slag or crushed brick concrete. The sheets may be chemically resistant for use in food processing plant or electro-plating plant.
