Abstract

1,196,088. Seals. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 28 March, 1969 [16 April, 1968], No. 17957/68. Heading F2B. [Also in Division E2] A ball-joint seal 31 which, whilst preventing loss of lubricant from the joint and entry of water or foreign matter thereto, allows the exit of excess grease during greasing operations without permanent displacement thereof comprises a first annular dished member 35 (which may be made of nylon) having a circumferential rib 36 which rests on an external spherical surface 32 of the socket 12, and a second annular dished member 37 made of resilient material and having a thickened portion 39 which grips the ball pin stem at 41. The member 37 overlaps the member 35 thus forcing the rib 36 against the surface 32 which is bounded by one and preferably two outstanding walls (33, 34) to limit movement of the seal. A flat annular surface 42 surrounding the ball pin and a shoulder 45 on the ball pin prevent movement of the member 37 away from, and towards, respectively, the ball pin head.
