Abstract
1,196,038. Making combustible gas. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 15 Nov., 1967 [16 Nov., 1966], No. 51965/67. Heading C5E. [Also in Division B1] Combustible gas consisting mainly of H. 2 with some CH 4 is made by catalytically cracking C 2 to C 30 hydrocarbons with steam in a tubular reactor at a temperature above 550‹ C., the catalyst comprising, by weight, 35 to 55 % Ni and 10 to 30% calcium aluminate binder, having magnesium oxide as carrier, and having an internal surface area of 15 to 50 sq. metres per gram. The catalyst should be alkali free or contain less than 0À5% b.w. reckoned as alkali metal. The catalyst at the inlet and/or exit ends of the tubes may be replaced by another catalyst, e.g. a high cracking activity Ni and/or Co catalyst at the inlet, and a calcined Ni or Co catalyst for cracking CH 4 to H 2 at the exit. The catalyst at the entry end of the tube may consist of finer particles, e.g. 4 to 6 mm. in size, than the rest of the catalyst. Feedstocks include olefins and gas oils.
