Armour and armour plating.-A series of buffers are placed around the ship, each being formed of alternate metal and leather plates 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 with layers of cork, hemp, and cotton 16, 17, 18 held in position by a flexible covering 19 secured by anglebars 7. The parts are held together by bolts 23 and rubber buffers 21 and springs 25 are interposed between the hull and the plate 10.
