Abstract
1,195,990. Modifying steel surface. NIPPON KOKAN K.K. Dec.14, 1967 [Dec. 17, 1966], No. 56846/67. Heading C7U. Steel articles are immersed in a hot solution, at a pressure from atmospheric to 300 atmospheres, selected from: (i) a solution of a molybdate, such as Ca molybdate or Mg molybdate, (ii) a mixture of an alkaline liquid and an oxide of an alkaline earth metal, such as Mg oxide, (iii) a sodium sulphide solution, (iv) a sodium sulphide solution incorporating a molybdate of an alkaline earth metal. Preferably the solution is at 240 C. to 385 C. and 38 to 300 atmospheric pressures. The films so formed may be treated with chromic acid, and may be painted.
