Abstract
1,195,853. Conveyer screws. PACKAGED POWER TERMINALS Inc. 4 July, 1968 [31 July, 1967; 22 Sept., 1967], Nos. 34993/67 and 43164/67. Heading B8A. Interengaging conveyer screws 1, 2, 3, 4 (which may be hollow for cooling purposes) are rotated in alternate opposite directions by a drive applied to gear 17 which is coupled to the screws via gears 15, 16 and 18. Additionally each screw is given a longitudinal movement which is derived from clutch 30, which drives the screws in an axial movement via disc 28, pin and slot elements 31, 29, reciprocating shaft 24, rack 23 and gearing 22, 20, 19 and 21, the gears 19, 20 and 21 engaging annular grooves 12a formed on the end of the screw shafts 12. In this way, as the screws are rotated, alternate screws move backwards and forward longitudinally, and so are self-cleaning. The insertion of springs 25, 25A into the movement of rack 23 causes the screws to have a dwell at the ends of their reciprocating stroke.
