Novel compounds of Formula (I) and acid addition and quaternary salts of those which are basic, wherein R is H, dimethylaminoethyl, diethylaminoethyl, diethylaminoethoxyethyl, 1 - methyl - 2 - (diethylamino) ethyl, 2,2 - dimethyl - 3 - (diethylamino) - propyl, 2,2- dimethyl - 3 - morpholinopropyl, tropyl, N- methylpiperidin - 3 - yl or a radical of formula are prepared by one of the following methods: (a) when R is H, by dehydration of the corresponding 2 - hydroxy - 2 - phenyl - cyclohexane - 1 - carboxylic acid, (b) by reaction of the acid chloride derived from the compound R = H with the appropriate alcohol or potassium salt thereof, (c) by reaction of the compound where R is Na or K with the appropriate aminoalkyl halide, or (d) by transesterification. The novel compounds have therapeutic activity as antispastic and antiulcer agents.
