Abstract
1,194,267. Portable fire extinguishers; extinguishing fires of fatty oils. WALTER KIDDE CO. Ltd. 27 Sept., 1967, No. 44083/67. Addition to 1,175,062. Heading A5A. [Also in Division B1] A portable fire-fighting foam generator of the parent Specification 1,175,062 is modified by the end 17 of the housing 15 remote from the mesh 18 being closed; a detachable closure 36 removable by pressure within the housing may also be provided for the mesh end. As shown the generator is embodied in an apparatus for extinguishing and preventing re-ignition of fat F and comprises a container 12 of liquefied carbon dioxide which pressurizes a foam solution container 24, delay means T being provided whereby gas is supplied to the generator in advance of the foam solution to first remove the closure 36 and knock down the flame. Carbon dioxide and solution are also supplied to a mixing head 14 to produce a carbon dioxide gas and snow mixture for cooling and rendering inert spaces round the receptacle R.
