Abstract
1,194,199. Protective arrangements. PIRELLI GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd. 20 Sept., 1968 [3 Oct., 1967], No. 44912/67. Heading H2K. [Also in Division G4] A warning system for indicating dangerous conditions in the vicinity of a buried cable or conduit 1 comprises at least one guard line 9 separate from and parallel to the conduit and buried in the vicinity thereof and indicating means responsive to interruption of or damage to the guard line 9. The system is applicable to the supervision of cables or gas or water pipes 1, 2; the guard line 9 being either a frangible (e.g. zinc) conductor or pressure filled tube. The guard line 9 may be incorporated in earthenware or concrete slabs 5 for protection of the conduit 1 or may be interposed between the slabs 5 and the conduit 1. Each guard line may be embedded in the strip of flat insulating material. The guard line may be fractured by excavation or subsidence in the region of the conduit 1 to be protected.
