Abstract
1,193,805. Ion sources. G. O. OKIKIOLU. 15 May, 1969 [18 March, 1969], No. 14061/69. Heading H1D. An ion source for producing protons has the hydrogen supplied to the ion-emitting electrode d by electrolysis from a cell h. The hydrogen percolates through porous electrode d, e.g. of platinum, and is ionized by the discharge between d and b. The ions so produced are accelerated by negative electrode b out of the aperture a for use with a number of similar units in a toroidal plasma production unit, Fig. 2 (not shown). Reference is made to use for propulsion or for producing a high-velocity hydrogen jet for a chemical rocket.
