1,193,144. Imidazolium and benzimidazolium salts. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 16 Aug., 1967 [17 Aug., 1966], No. 37753/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] 1 - Allyl - 2 - methyl - 3 - carboxymethyl imidazolium chloride is prepared by heating 1- alkyl - 2 - methyl - imidazole with ClCH 2 COOH. 1 - Ethyl - 2 - methyl - 3 - carboxymethylbenzimidazolium chloride and its 5-chloro compound are similarly prepared. 1 - Ethyl - 2 - methyl - 3 - (3 - carboxypropyl) - 5, 6-dichlorobenzimidazolium bromide is prepared by heating 1 - ethyl - 2 - methyl - 5,6 - dichloro - benzimidazole with 8 - bromobutyronitrile, and reacting the nitrile product with hydrogen bromide. 1,3 - Diethyl - 2 - methyl - 5 - chlorobenzimidazolium perchlorate is similarly prepared from diethyl sulphate. 1 - Ethyl 2 - methyl - 3 - (2 - carboxyethyl) - 5,6- dichlorobenzimidazolium bromide is similarly prepared from #-bromopropionamide, followed by hydrolysis of the amide product.
