Abstract
1,192,947. Transformers. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 30 Oct., 1967 [11 Nov., 1966], No. 49155/67. Heading H1T. A variable radio-frequency autotransformer has a bifilar main winding whose ends are connected to terminals T 1 , T 2 through at least two auxiliary coils, a slider contacting the main winding being connected to a third terminal T 3 . In the embodiment of Fig. 1, there are four auxiliary coils A 1 -A 4 . Magnetic coupling may be provided between pairs of these auxiliary coils or between all four coils. Other embodiments utilize only two coils by omitting A 1 and either A 3 or A 4 in Fig. 1. In a final embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) there are eight coils, two series-connected coils replacing each coil A 1 -A 4 in Fig. 1, four of these coils being magnetically coupled together and the other four being coupled in two separate pairs. One conductor of the bifilar main winding may have one more turn than the other. The slider may move on a linear or arcuate path. The main winding may have a toroidal ferrite core, and the auxiliary coils may have ferrite beads as cores.
