Abstract

1,191,663. Typewriters &c. MONOTYPE CORP. Ltd. 19 May, 1967 [1 June, 1966], No. 24470/66. Heading B6F. [Also in Division H1] A keyboard for a type-composing machine comprises a plurality of keys 10 and a space bar 36 having respective depending shafts 23 and 37, 38 which are received in aligned bores 18, 22 of support plates 17, 19 the former of which also supports a respective plurality of electrical contacts 34, pressed into contact with contacts (not shown) of a printed electric circuit disposed on opposite sides of a plate 14 which is supported by a plate 12 through the intermediary of an insulating plate 13. The contacts 34, which are connected to a low-voltage supply 57, connect the printed circuit in a permutable manner to produce electrical signals at a selected number of output terminals of the printing circuit. The keys 10, 36 are depressed against the bias of annular magnets 51 mounted on reduced shanks 50 of the shafts 23, the restoration of the keys being assisted by the resilience of the contacts 34 and effected by the magnets 51, which in the restored condition are in contact with the support plate 19. In another modification the magnets 51 may be replaced by washers (not shown) which coact with a magnetic rubber blanket attached to the under surface of the plate 19.
