[Also in Division G3] An aircraft speed controller controls the fuel supply to the engines in response to velocity head and is adapted to suppress the influence of gusts. In the embodiment shown, signals #v and b representing the deviation of the aircraft speed from a reference value and the longitudinal acceleration respectively are amplified at 10, 12 and summed. The summed signal is split and passes through an amplifier 14 and differentiating unit 16, the separated components being superimposed again to control a servomotor 18 connected to the engine throttles, The servomotor 18 has a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) action and no position feedback, although a velocity feedback may be introduced. In the alternative embodiment of Fig.2, not shown, the input signals #v, b are split and the components thereof are amplified and differentiated. The time derivative component of #v, is added to the amplified component of b and this signal is added to the amplified component of #v and the time derivative component of b.
