Abstract

1,189,993. Bed lifts. B. J. SAUNDERS. 14 July, 1967 [3 May, 1966; 8 July, 1966], Nos. 19388/66 and 30723/66. Heading A4J. In a bed lift, having support slings 21, carried by vertically movable side frames 3, the lifting mechanism is power operated to enable the patient to work it himself. The roller connections 18, of slings 21 with the bars 16, enable the side frames 3 to be lowered, from the guard position shown, to provide access to the bed. The slings 21 may be of nylon and detachably secured by removable pins 20. Slides 17 enable certain slings 21 to be moved along frames 3. The side frames 3 are guided, for vertical movement, resting on bars 14, which are moved by cables 10, 10a, wound on drums 11, 12. The drums 11, 12 are driven, through a worm gear, by an electric motor (24). Limit switches (34) are operated by means of a gear train (31, 32). A plunger, on a worm shaft (27), operates a pressure gauge to give a direct reading of the weight of a patient carried by the slings.
