Abstract

118,976. Bostock, F. Feb. 4, 1918. Stitches a n d seams. - A back strap, particularly for a " Derby " boot, comprises a piece c of thin leather which is folded as shown, Figs. 2 and 7, and is secured to the portions a of the upper first by one or more rows of stitching c passing through its edge c<3>, and then by one or more rows of stitching f passing through the double folds c<2>. The two portions a of the upper are secured together by zigzag stitching a<3>, Fig. 1, except near their upper edges, which are out away to leave a space a' to render this part of the boot more flexible. This construction of back strap enables the boot to remain waterproof should the outer stitching be worn away, such as by the friction of leggings.
