[Also in Divisions B7 and E1] A load 6-for example a drilling derrick-is slid along a support 3-for example a drilling platform-by a horizontally extendable device 10, roller 18 being lifted on actuation of the device in one direction to transfer at least some of the load to the roller and thence through friction shoe 20 to the support. The device 10 may comprise an hydraulic ram. Clevis 17 on the end of the piston rod of the ram supports the roller which runs between tracks 30 in the load and is connected via pivotal link 19 to the shoe. On extension of the ram, link 19 pivots clockwise about its pivot 21 with the shoe and the load is pushed along on its skids 4, 5 and the roller. On retraction of the ram the shoe is pulled along the surface. Alternatively the ram may be arranged on the other side of the shoe and connected to skid 5 so that the load is pulled lather than pushed. There may be an hydraulic ram on each side of the derrick. The ram may be replaced by a screw jack.
