Abstract

1,189,747. Printing plate. ELECTROGRAPHIC CORP. 19 Aug., 1968 [29 Feb., 1968], No. 39544/68. Heading B6C. To prevent tensional effects arising when resilient printing plate 12 is attached to the surface of a plate cylinder from distorting the image produced by it, the plate is formed with projections 16 extending from its inner surface to abut on backing member 13, where they are secured by adhesive. The projections 16 may be cylindrical, or may be formed by a pattern at interruptions of the material of plate 12, running longitudinally of the cylinder. Preferably plate 12 comprises an outer layer of harder rubber, with upraised printing areas 14 moulded into it, and an inner layer of softer rubber with projections 16. Curing of the rubber is completed after the plate is mounted on backing member 13, and is preferably effected by infra-red radiation, applied through a polyethylene wrapping.
