Abstract

1,189,532. Valves. CARRIER CORP. 26 May, 1967 [23 June, 1966], No. 24718/67. Heading F2V. [Also in Divisions F4 and G3] Air-conditioning system is controlled selectively under heating and cooling conditions by means including a bleed-type control valve device. Control air pressure is supplied selectively under the two conditions to respective conduits 23, 24 whose ends are obturated by a thermostatic bleed device 22. This device comprises a bleed block 32A carried by a wall-mounting frame 31. The bleed ports 33A, 34A are selectively obturated in one embodiment by a sliding plate valve 28 actuated by a U-shaped bimetal 27. The bimetal is mounted on a bracket 39 pre-adjusted on a lever 41 by a locking screw 42. Lever 41 is connected through a pin-and-slot connection 45, 46 with a lever 47 which is manually adjustable through a sliding knob 58 to set the control point. The bled air goes through holes 37 in the frame and maintains an air current behind a coverplate 55. In a modification, the bleed ports are obturated by a flapper-type valve (29), Fig. 6 (not shown). The system comprises a room unit supplied with primary air from a plenum chamber 3 through a damper 4 and nozzles 5. Control air from the chamber 3 is supplied through a filter 12 and restriction 13 to a changeover valve 19 responsive to the temperature of the heating or cooling medium in a heat exchanger 6 to supply the conduits 23, 24 selectively. The control pressure set up by the bleed valve actuates a damper 7 through a bellows 10 to direct secondary air over the heat exchanger or to by-pass it.
