Abstract

1,189,330. Herbicides containing pyridinium salts. BP CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 14 Oct., 1968 [11 Nov., 1967], No. 51415/67. Heading A5E. [Also in Division C2] Herbicidal compositions comprise as active ingredient pyridinium salts of the formula: wherein R is a direct bond or a divalent organic radical which does not sterically hinder the carbon atoms to which it is attached and which is unsaturated to give a fully conjugated structure over the whole molecule, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are monovalent organic radicals, X is an anion and the bonds to the pyridine rings are attached in the 2- or 4-positions. Specified compounds are dimethiodides in which R is a direct bond or a benzene ring. The compounds can be used in the form of aqueous solutions containing wetting agents.
