A warp knitted fabric comprises laid in warps 7 embraced within the knitted base structure without being knitted which overlie laid in weft threads 8 which lie on the surface of the base structure and serve to give a pronounced effect to the laid in warps as they pass over them. A raised bouclÚ effect is thereby produced. The base structure may be a series of chain stitches connected by further laid in yarns extending from one wale to another or it may be a tricot structure.
