Abstract

1,188,841. Photographic type-composing apparatus. MORISAWA SHASHIN SHOKUJIKI SEISAKUSHO K.K. 27 April, 1967 [30 April, 1966], No. 19506/66. Heading B6W. In a photographic type-composing machine of the sort described in U.K. Specification 1,016,934, characters carried on a movable font plate 11 are projected by means of a selected one of lenses 34 of a rotatable turret system 33 on to a recording surface mounted for linewise movement on carriage 73. The letters on font 11 are each associated with a corresponding adjusting piece 13 of height inversely proportional to the breadth of the corresponding letter, the letter-spacing being controlled by depression of a lever 18 which brings a vertical rod 36, housed in an aperture in the centre of turret 33 into engagement with the adjusting piece 13 of a selected character, the degree of descent of rod 36 being converted by lever and linkage into a proportional linewise movement of carriage 73. The selected character is locked into a recording position on depression of lever 18 by the end of lever 15 engaging rack 12 mounted on font slide 14.
