Abstract

[Also in Division F1] A toothed wheel 9 is rotated in one direction by a pawl 6a and in the opposite direction by a pawl 6b, the pawls being carried by a rod 2 urged by springs to the central position shown and reciprocated to one or other side of the central position by fluid pressure acting on pistons secured thereto. The pistons are secured to opposite ends of the rod 2 and each is slidable in a cylinder which is alternately pressurized and exhausted to cause the reciprocation. The ends 6<SP>11</SP>a, 6<SP>11</SP>b are connected together by a tension spring (not shown). The pawl assembly is movable axially of the ratchet-wheel 9 to bring one or other of the pawls out of engagement with the wheel.
