Abstract

1,188,603. Automatic control of voltage and current. AM. HASE. March 25, 1968, No.14227/68. Heading G3R. A regulated power supply comprises an A.C. source 10 which is connected over a transductor 12 to a rectifier 14 providing a D.C. output for connection to a load, e.g. a battery to be charged, the control winding 20 of the transductor being connected in parallel with a transistor 22 and the parallel combination being connected in series with a resistor 18 across the said D.C. output; variations in the output voltage are detected by a sensing circuit including a voltage divider 16 and a Zener diode 26 connected to the base of transistor 22, the arrangement being such that the current in the winding 20, and thus the operation of the transductor 12, is automatically controlled so as to correct for the detected variations. The sensing circuit may include an amplifier, a bridge sensing network and a differential error detector, such modifications being described with reference to Figs.2 to 6 (not shown). The control current may be derived from an auxiliary supply source Fig.7 (not shown), and the shunt transistor 22 may be replaced by a uni-junction transistor or thyristor with suitable modification of the control circuit. The sensing circuit may be arranged to detect a current-dependant voltage whereby current, rather than voltage, is maintained constant.
