Abstract

1,188,236. Distribution pillars. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 14 Feb., 1969 [15 Feb., 1968], No. 7421/68. Heading H2E. A service pillar for a low-tension distribution system contains a plurality of bus-bar units e.g. of Al, Cu, bronze, one for each phase and neutral conductor of a distributer cable C, mounted side-by-side on and electrically connecting the conductors of adjacent lengths of the distributer cable, each unit 14 having means for electrical connection to a plurality of service cables S. The distributer cable C and its . conductors are supported on transverse members 3, 4 of a supporting frame, the supports being clamps 6 and clamping bars 10. The distributer cable C is connected to bus-bar units 14, each of which may be a single bar or two bars joined by a link or fuse, by terminal lugs 15 and screws 16. Service cable conductors are connected to the bus-bar units 14 by pinch screws 18 securing them in bores 17 in the units which are insulated from one another by plastics shrouds e.g. of P.V.C. The support frame has feet 5 and carries on its metallic parts, connecting blocks 20 for the earth continuity conductors, and a junction box 23 in which the pilot conductors are interconnected. In use the pillar is enclosed by cover 25.
