Regulating and controlling.-Pulsation is prevented by a valve 22 which opens the discharge to atmosphere on to the suction pipe. The valve 22 is moved by a piston 24 normally subjected on both sides to discharge pressure. When the flow of fluid in the discharge conduit is low, the valve 14 is partly closed by the counterweight 17 and, by means of a link 33, opens the valve 30 to exhaust the lower side of the piston 24, which then descends against the action of the spring 36. Fluid is supplied below this piston through a needle valve. A dash-pot 20 controls the motion of the valve 14.
