Abstract

1,187,697. Syringe &c. adaptor. BRUNSWICK CORP. 26 April, 1968 [28 April, 1967], No. 20075/68. Heading A5R. An adaptor, for interpolation between a hypodermic needle and a syringe or the like, which may be left on the needle to seal it whilst the syringe is removed or replaced, comprises a tubular body 21, e.g. of a rigid resin with a bore 22, 23, 24 and a transverse wall 27 from which projects a forward connector 28 with a passage 29 adapted to engage the hub 16 of a hypodermic needle. Behind the wall 27 is fitted a resilient annular element 30 with an axial passage 31 normally closed by a closing element 32 having a diametric slit 33 biassed to close the passage by the resiliency of the material of which the element 30 is made, the element 30 being retained in the adaptor by a plurality of fingers 34 formed on the rear of the body 21. When installed on the end 15 of the syringe, the slit is forced open by the syringe end and a free passage from the syringe to the needle is produced, the passage being closed when the syringe is removed. The attachment of the adapter to a different type of syringe barrel is illustrated in Figs. 5-7 (not shown).
