Abstract

1,187,502. Receiving element for colour diffusion transfer process. EASTMAN KODAK CO. June 14, 1967 [June 14, 1966], No.27552/67. Heading G2C. A receiving element for a colour diffusion transfer process such as that described in Specifications 904, 364 and 904, 365 comprises a support and the following layers permeable to alkaline medium in sequence from the support (i) a layer which contains a non-diffusible acidic material (ii) a layer which contains a finely divided pigment in an amount sufficient to mask any stain present in layer (i) after processing and (iii) a layer containing a mordant for diffusible dye. Specified mordants are cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide, octadecyl tributyl ammonium bromide, polymers of amino guanidine derivatives of vinyl methyl ketone, quaternary phosphorium and ternary sulphonium compounds and polymers of 2-vinylpyridine metho-p-toluene sulphonate in binders such as gelatine or polyvinyl alcohol. The acidic material may be a polymeric acid such as those listed in Specification 1, 071, 088 or a monomeric acid e.g. palmitic or stearic acid which maybe in a binder e.g. gelatine. Specified pigments are TiO 2 , SiO 2 , CaSO 4 and BaSO 4 in a binder such as those described for the inert polymer layer of Specifications 1, 071, 087 and 1, 071, 088, gelatine and polyvinyl alcohol with or without polyvinyl acetate. The receiving element may have an interlayer between (ii) and (iii) and an overcoat U.V.-absorbing layer. When used in colour diffusion transfer processes the receiving element may be integral with the lightsensitive material, a stripping layer being provided between the receiving element and the lightsensitive material or separate therefrom and the light-sensitive material may be negative or positive working and may be processed directly or reversally.
