Abstract

1,187,200. Imidazoline derivatives. DOW CHEMICAL C O . 3 April, 1968 [4 April, 1967], No. 45091/69. Divided out of 1,180,862. Heading C2C. Novel compounds I in which R is H or methyl and X and X 1 independently represent Cl or Br and their physiologically acceptable salts are prepared by reacting the appropriate 3,4-dihalophenoxyacetonitrile with ethylene diamine monotoslyate and thereafter hydrolysing the formed toylsate, followed, where desired, by salt formation. Intermediate 3,4 - dichlorophenoxy - acetonitrile is prepared from 3,4-dichloro-phenol and chloroacetonitrile. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound I in conjunction with a carrier therefor and are useful as antidepressants and analgesics.
