Abstract
1,187,168. De-gasifying metals. STANDARDMESSO DUISBURG GES. F R CHEMIETECHNIK m.b.H. & CO. Sept.12, 1968 [Oct.24, 1967], No.43361/68. Heading C7D. Apparatus for the removal of gas from molten metal comprises a gas extraction chamber for connection to a source of vacuum, a suction pipe extending from the chamber into a ladle and a bell-type displacement vessel arranged to extend into the ladle with means operable to pressurize and de-pressurize the vessel. As shown in Fig.1 the displacement vessel 22 is attached to the gas extraction chamber 13 at 21 and pressurizing and de-pressurizing are performed by introduction of gas under pressure through inlet pipe 23 and its exhaustion through pipe 24. Alternatively pressurizing and de-pressurizing may be achieved by lowering and raising the vessel 22. In a further embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) the displacement vessel is mounted on and is coaxial with the suction pipe so as to surround the lower part of the suction pipe.
