Abstract

1,186,473. Automatic control systems for electrolytic grinders. VUMA V¦SKUMN¦ STAV MECHANIZ‡CIE A AUTOMATIZACIE. May 2, 1968 [May 5, 1967], No.20888/68. Heading G3R. In an electrolytic grinder, short-circuits or arcing between the tool electrode 1 and the workpiece 2 result in disturbances in the operating current which is derived from a supply source 5 by way of conductors 3, 4, and these disturbances are detected by a sensor 8 the output from which is applied to a control winding 7 of a magnetic amplifier 6 which itself controls the operation of a two-phase induction motor 11 mechanically geared to regulate the distance between the electrodes 1, 2, the arrangement being such that the motor 11 operates in response to signals from the sensor 8 to vary the working gap so as to protect the system against the effects of such shortcircuits; "normal" disturbances in the supply current, caused for example by ripple in the rectified output from source 5, are sensed by a further control winding 15 which is connected in series with a variable resistor 14 to the supply conductor 4, resistor 14 being adjusted so that the effects of the "normal" disturbances on the operation of the magnetic amplifier 6 are compensated for, or slightly overcompensated for. This compensation results in an improved regulating action, and this is explained with reference to Fig.2 (not shown).
