Abstract

[Also in Division G3] The output voltage of a high voltage transformer 6 supplying, for example, an X-ray tube, is determined by the setting of relays 4 connected between the primary winding 5 of transformer 6 and selected tappings 8 of an autotransformer 3 having input terminals 1, 2; associated with transformer 3 is a selector transformer 9 having selector devices 10, 11 connected to the winding of transformer 3, and a voltage sensitive device 12 is connected between a fixed tapping T and any one of a number of additional tappings 13 on the winding of transformer 9. The setting of selector 11 determines the output voltage of transformer 6 and when the selector is adjusted to a new position, the equilibrium condition of unit 12 is disturbed and a control signal is produced for application to a reversible uniselector 14 which is arranged to vary the tapping point 13 to which the unit 12 is connected until equilibrium is restored; at the same time -the uniselector 14 controls the relays 4 so that the output voltage of transformer 6 corresponds to the setting of (selector 11. Any variations in the supply voltage at terminals 1, 2 will also be compensated for by the units 12, 14. The selector 10 may be associated with separate means for adjusting the tube current of X-ray apparatus; when this adjustment takes place, the input voltage to unit 12 is also changed resulting in adjustment of uniselector 14 to actuate the relays 4, thereby ensuring that the output voltage of transformer 6 is re-set to a value compensating for different voltage drops obtained with different tube currents. In an alternative arrangement, described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown), the output from the selector transformer is applied to the unit 12 which produces a control signal for a reversible electric motor regulating an adjustable tapping means or an impedance connected across the input terminals 1, 2, the positionof the tapping means determining the output voltage of transformer 6.
