Abstract

1,185,925. Plastics-wire mesh laminates. HENRY CROSSLEY (PACKINGS) Ltd. 19 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 30091/67. Heading B5N. A polytetrafluoroethylene sheet is laminated to a coextensive wire mesh sheet by placing the sheets in contact, heating, and subjecting the sheets to a pressure sufficient to cause the polytetrafluoroethylene to flow into the mesh interstices. The temperature may be up to 300‹ C. and the pressure maybe up to 3 tons/in.<SP>2</SP>, these factors being inversely related. The laminate may be made by assembling the sheets between the flat plates of a die, heating the die and placing it between the plates of a press. The mesh may be of phosphor bronze or steel, tin-coated steel or tin-coated brass and after forming the laminate may be soldered or welded to a metal base member.
