Abstract

1,185,863. Tree pruners. MIDLANDS ELECTRICITY BOARD. 7 Nov., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 42060/67. Heading B4B. A pair of pruning shears comprises blades 11, 12 mounted on a pole formed from a plurality of separable sections 10, 26 of e.g. fibreglass, the blade 12 being actuated by means of a cord which is formed from two portions 34, 35 connected by a block 31 of insulating material forming an abutment thereby breaking the continuity of the surface of the cord such that in the event of the cord becoming damp and the shears accidentally touching a power cable no electric current passes down the cord to the hands of an operator. The cord, which may be of nylon, passes over pulleys 18, 21 e.g. of nylon and connects with the block 31 e.g. of nylon, within the section 10 of the pole. The support member 20 for the shear blades may be of nylon or fibreglass and is connected to the pole section 10 by a captive pin 24; the lower section 26 is similarly connected to the section 10.
