Abstract

1,185,170. Cable reels. EDWARD JONES (SPRINGS) Ltd. 18 March, 1968 [16 Dec., 1966], No. 56355/66. Heading B8H. A cable dispensing device comprises a support on which a reel 16 may be rotatably mounted, the support being provided with means to resist rotation of the reel, and an angled tubular guide 15 through which the cable is threaded, the guide 15 providing a friction grip on the cable. The support includes a base 11, upstanding portions 12 and a carrying handle 17. A further arm 18 is preferably pivotally attached to the upstanding portions 12 to stabilize the support. A fixed spindle 13 is attached to the support on one side of the support and carries two conical portions which are rotatable on the spindle and engage in the axial aperture of a cable reel. The spindle is adjustable in length to accommodate different sized reels. The conical portion remote from the mounting end of the spindle is detachable to allow mounting of a reel. The two conical portions are spring urged together to provide a friction grip with the reel and resist rotation thereof. The angled tubular guide 15 preferably comprises a close coiled spring having a sharp bend or may be a tube either of which may be coated with rubber or a plastics material. The guide is mounted to allow for automatic alignment with the cable as it is drawn from the reel.
