Abstract

1,185,014. Valves. WORCESTER VALVE CO. Ltd. 29 March, 1967 [2 April, 1966], No. 14729/66. Heading F2V. In a rotary ball valve, there is provided a rotary ball valve member 10 which is formed with a bore and is mounted between two annular metallic seat rings 14, the rings being arranged to provide a circumferential clearance 52 between themselves and a valve body part 11 and to be spaced from a second body part 12. Within each space so formed there is disposed an annulus of flexible springy material 15 having radial flats 17, 18 and designed to inhibit the relief of pressure via clearance 52 until the pressure on the upstream side of the valve reaches a predetermined value. In one of two further embodiments, which one embodiment is depicted in the drawing accompanying the Provisional Specification, the seat ring is made of resilient material and has formed, in its radially outermost periphery, axially extending grooves which function as the relief passages, and in the other, (Fig. 2, not shown), the seat ring is formed from a soft, non-resilient material clad in, or contained by, metal annuli designed to leave an axial clearance (72) for the relief of pressure, the latter embodiment being usable for the flow control of hot liquid sodium.
