Abstract

1,184,997. Belt gearing. GATES RUBBER CO. 22 March, 1968, No. 13986/68. Heading F2Q. A belt 10 comprises laterally spaced ribs 11 of trapezoidal cross-section passing longitudinally around the inner circumference of the belt, the upper surfaces of the ribs 11 being interconnected by tie-bands 25 which prevent the ribs from rotating around the sheaves independently of one another but allow them to seat independently in the V-grooves of the sheaves. The belt 10 comprises a compression section 18 composed of loaded gum or fibre reinforced rubber, a neutral axis 19 in which cords 20 of cotton, rayon, nylon, polyester or wire are disposed, a tension section 23, and transverse cords 26 disposed in the tie-bands 25. The belt may be covered with a band of rubberized fabric 24.
