A piezoelectric ceramic has the composition {Me(Mny2Tiy2)O3}t{Me(Mny2Zry2)O3}u{PbTiO3}v {PbZrO 3 }w where the mole ratios t, u, v and w are each between 0 and 1, Me represents one element selected from Bi, La, Ce, Nd and Sm, and up to 25 atom per cent of the lead can be replaced by Ba, Sr or Ca.
