Abstract

1,184,605. Welding by pressure. RUBERY, OWEN & CO. Ltd. 4 Nov., 1968 [3 Aug., 1967], No. 35703/67. Heading B3R. A mounting for a welding gun comprises a fitting 15 to which the gun is secured by readily removable means 13 and which is secured to a stationary part 16 by a swivelling joint adapted to be locked in adjusted position by means 21 which are only accessible on removal or displacement of the gun. The fluid pressure cylinder 10 of the spot welding gun has at its upper end a lug 11 with an open ended slot 12 through which pass bolts 13, 13 into an offset part 14 of the fitting 15. A boss 17 on the fitting has a part-spherical upper surface 18 co-operating with a frusto-conical surface 25 on a block 26 fitting against the stationary part 16 and a bolt 21 carrying a washer 25 having a part-spherical surface 24 co-operating with a frusto-conical surface in a recess 22 of the fitting passes through a frustoconical opening 19 in the boss through a hole in the block 26 and into the stationary part 16. With the bolt loose the fitting is angularly adjusted to move the gun up to 10 degrees from its central position, the bolt being exposed on loosening the bolts 13, 13, and removing or pivoting the gun. The frusto-conical surfaces in the block 26 and recess may be replaced by part-spherical surfaces and in a modification a serrated washer is interposed between the heads of the bolts and the lug 11 to prevent slackness during operation. The mounting may be used in multiple spot welding assemblies.
