Abstract

1,002,558. Disc brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Oct. 16, 1962 [Nov. 9, 1961], No. 40207/61. Heading F2E. In a disc brake having a movable member carrying a fluid pressure cylinder or cylinders and a fixed support therefor, the or each cylinder is provided with a projection or projections, which or each of which is locatable in an aperture in the movable member, the or each projection being adapted to receive means for securing the or each cylinder against displacement relative to the movable member. As shown in Figs. 4 and 7 a projection 15 integral with a cylinder 13 is located in an aperture formed by portions 16 of the movable member which consists of two plates 7, 9 secured together and pivoted to the feed support. The cylinder is secured to the movable member by a bolt 18. The projection may provide the connection to the hydraulic liquid supply source. In this case an axial passage through the projection opening into the interior of the cylinder 13 is connected to the supply and the projection is externally threaded to receive a clamping nut for securing the cylinder. The cylinder is also provided with lugs 19, 20 formed on a ring 21 shrunk or pressed on to the cylinder to clamp the latter between the two plates 7, 9. Remote from the pivot pin the movable member is provided with an elongated slot through which extends the shank of a stop pin spring-loaded in a hole in the fixed support, the head of the pin bearing on the movable member to damp brake chatter. A spring clip is also interposed between the outer edges of the pads and the inner surface of the dished portion 9 of the plate 8. In another embodiment, Fig. 10, the projection is formed by a headed bolt 37 which passes through an aperture formed by the portions 40 of the movable member and has a nut 41 screwed thereon to secure the cylinder. Bores 43, 44 connect the cylinder to the hydraulic liquid supply. The brake pads 33 which are normally retained in position by a spring clip may be withdrawn radially through the aperture 45 in the plate 29 of the movable member.
