Abstract

1,184,266. Digital transmission systems; automatic exchange systems. SIEMENS A.G. 16 Aug., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 39185/68. Headings H4K and H4P. A programme-controlled exchange includes a store SP containing the data and programmes for operating the exchange, a transmission control unit UeSt for reception and transmission via feeders TS, and an operation control unit BeS( which processes the programmes. Both UeSt and BeSt are connected to unit SpASt which requisitions the store Sp in accord with demands from them and are connected to a programme requisitioning unit PrASt which controls the sequence of processing of the programmes: each programme lies in a certain priority class, each class being processed in turn and the programmes within each class are processed in the order of arrival of programme demands. If UeSt and BeSt are simultaneously demanding access to Sp, SpASt allots the next store cycle to UeSt which is thereupon connected to Sp for the duration of that cycle via input and output elements individually allotted to it. The operation control unit may comprise two units a and b, unit a processing high-urgency short programmes without any interruption of the selected programme and unit b normal programmes which may be interrupted. If a programme is to be interrupted by one of higher priority its instantaneous state is stored in Sp.
