Abstract
1,183,777. Moulding hollow chocolates. S. WESTIN. 28 June, 1968, No. 31049/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B8] Hollow chocolate bodies, which may subsequently be filled with a different material, are moulded in a plurality of mould recesses 3 formed in rows across a plastics sheet which is intermittently advanced through filling apparatus. The plastics sheet may be transparent, and may remain as a wrapping for the chocolate when a further plastics sheet is placed thereover and welded thereto at the edges and at points between the recesses. The moulding apparatus comprises a plurality of assemblies 1, each provided with a head 2, which are resiliently mounted on a support 4 for simultaneous reciprocation into sealing engagement around mould recesses 3, at a seal 20 of the heads 2. The support 4 is reciprocated, against spring means (not shown) by a continuously rotating cam 5, the shaft 6 whereof rotates the shaft of a multiple way valve 23. In the position shown, the valve 23 connects a chocolate receptacle 24 to a tubular member 10 whereby an amount of chocolate is injected into each recess 3, and then also connects a compressed air source 25, via passage 13, to an annular passage concentric with tube 10 and provided with axially inclined vanes 14 at the outlet thereof whereby a rotary movement is imported to the injected chocolate to uniformly distribute it over the recess 3 and force excess chocolate back to receptacle 24 through valve 23, via an annular passage 18 and radial passage 16 in head 2, and an annular passage concentric with the annular compressed air passages. The valve 23 then sequentially cuts off the supply of chocolate, compressed air and then the return flow to the receptacle 24. After the assemblies 1 have been lifted from the moulds the plastics sheet is displaced to place a further row of recesses therebeneath, by means of a fluid or electric motor 27 actuated from the valve 23 by a fluid pressure switch 26.
