Abstract

1,226,014. Moulding chocolate shells. S. WESTIN. 28 June, 1968, No. 31047/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions B2F and B8C. A chocolate shell 16 for subsequent filling with a soft substance is formed in a mould 1, which may also comprise a plastics packaging therefor, by depositing hot chocolate within the mould from orifices 3 of a reciprocably rotating nozzle 2 which is vertically reciprocated into the mould 1 and is provided with an annular plate 15 having a dependent shoulder whereby deposition of chocolate on to the upper surface 16 of the mould 1, surrounding the moulding cavity thereof, is avoided. A plurality of rows of moulds 1 may be provided in a plastics sheet by the hot pressing thereof, and which is then intermittently fed through a machine wherein a plurality of nozzles 2 simultaneously deposit chocolate shells into one or more rows of the moulds 1. The nozzle 2 is replaceably mounted on a hollow shaft 5 whereby it is supplied with hot chocolate via a flexible hose connection 14. The shaft 5 is vertically reciprocated into the mould 1, against a return spring 10, by a cam 9 acting on a gear-wheel 7 which slides along an elongated gear 8 providing the reciprocating rotary motion of the nozzle 2. The chocolate is cooled during the spraying operation by a cool air blast directed towards the moulds.
