Abstract

A linear induction motor comprises a stator including a housing 10 within which is located a series of axially spaced coils 11 separated by laminations 13, the magnetic circuit of each coil being completed by a ring of magnetic material 12 comprising a coiled metal strip of more than one turn, the turns being insulated from one another, e.g. by a layer 17, Fig. 2 (not shown) of paper interleaved with the turns of the ring. Alternatively a layer of epoxy resin may be placed on one or both sides of the metal strip to insulate and secure together the turns of the ring. Current may be taken to the coil through a thin conductive strip interleaved with and insulated from the turns of the ring. The rotor is a rod or bar movable through axially aligned openings in the coils and laminations.
