Abstract
1,183,551. Mixing apparatus. APAW S.A. 2 Jan., 1968 [2 Jan., 1967], No. 331/68. Heading B1C. [Also in Division F4H] A machine for the batchwise production of ice cream comprises an evaporator 8 of a refrigeration circuit including a condenser 5 and compressor 6 which cools an ice cream can 9 whose bottom wall has a through bore so that a removable dasher may be engaged with a dasher drive mechanism located below the can. As illustrated, the drive mechanism comprises a motor 3 driving a gear wheel 16 through a pinion 17. A plate 18 is secured to the wheel 16 and has a square central bore which may be engaged by the correspondingly shaped end of the shaft 20 of a dasher 19. The shaft 20 carries a disc 23 and blades 24 and 25 are secured to the disc and the shaft. The motor 3 also drives a condenser fan 4. When the dasher is withdrawn, the can may be washed, wash water flowing through the can bore into a drawer 26 which may be partially withdrawn so that water is discharged through a port 27 into a suitable collecting vessel. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the dasher has straight vertical blades which scrape the wall of the can and whose scraping edges have offset notches. The lower end of the dasher shaft has a non-cylindrical socket which is engaged by a projection on the drive mechanism. The machine may be adapted for the production of ice blocks by replacing the dasher by an ice mould device, Fig. 4 (not shown).
