Abstract
1,183,463. Welding by fusion. MUREX WELDING PROCESSES Ltd. 29 Sept., 1967 [31 Oct., 1966], No. 44484/67. Divided out of 1,183,461. Heading B3R. [Also in Division C7] A continuous electrode for use without external shielding of the arc comprises a mild steel sheath enclosing a core containing by weight of the electrode:- 0.8-2.5% Al 0À01-1% Ti 0À05-1À5% Si 0À5-5% Ni 0À05-0À33% Mn 0À4-6% alkali or alkaline earth metals Up to 10% slag-forming compounds. The 0À4-6% refers to the proportion of these metals in the electrode and includes such amount of alkali or alkaline earth metals as may be present in the slag formers. These metals act as electron emissive agents and may be present as fluorides, carbonates, titanates, borofluorides, silicofluorides or titanofluorides of alkali or alkaline earth metals. The slag-forming compounds by weight of the electrode are 4-8% potash felspar, soda felspar, lime felspar, potassium silicate or sodium silicate or mixtures thereof to which may be added one or more of, up to 5% wollastonite and up to 5% iron oxide. The sheath is formed from a strip of rimming steel, e.g., up to 0À12% C, 0À2-0À6% Mn, up to 0À05% Si or killed or semi-killed steel, e.g., up to 0À3% Si, up to 0À15% Al and up to 1À8% Mn.
