Abstract
1,183,462. Welding by fusion. MUREX WELDING PROCESSES Ltd. 29 Sept., 1967 [1 Nov., 1966], No. 44483/67. Divided out of 1,183,461. Heading B3R. [Also in Division C7] A continuous electrode for welding without shielding gas or additional flux comprises a mild steel sheath enclosing a core constituting 30- 40% by weight of the electrode and containing: 0-40% iron powder 4-30% aluminium powder 0-15% manganese oxide 0-15% silica 0-10% potassium titanate 0-10% carbonate 10-40% fluoride 8-65% oxide of chromium and/or molybdenum and/or nickel 0-15% ferro-manganese. The fluoride is calcium fluoride alone or mixed with one or more of 7-35% cryolite, up to 20% sodium fluoride, up to 7% potassium fluoride and up to 12% potassium silicofluoride. The carbonate consists of one or more of calcium, barium, strontium and magnesium carbonate. The silica may be in the form of a mineral such as felspar or wollastonite. The electrode deposits welds containing 0À05-0À8% aluminium. The electrodes may produce hard facing deposits or deposits of high tensile steel containing 1À25% chromium and 0À5% molybdenum or 2À25% chromium and 1% molybdenum.
